People often do not have a clear idea of the actual status of their dental health. Even with lights and mirrors, the patient can’t see what the dentist sees! The small, hand-held mirror is an artifact in our dental office.
For better viewing, we use intraoral images presented on the television monitor in your treatment room. Our team utilizes this technology for patient education to enhance your understanding of your diagnosis and potential problems. We place a pen-sized, camera-tipped wand into your mouth that takes a video of your mouth and transmits the images to the television or computer screen. We then show you any problem areas and explain recommendations for treatment; you become an informed partner in your dental chair instead of a clueless bystander taking the dentist’s word for it!
Seeing your dental problems may seem overwhelming at first, but consider the first step toward a healthier smile. The camera may reveal the early stages of a potentially serious problem, but it gives you the opportunity to address smaller problems and prevent larger, more costly treatments! The intraoral camera is especially helpful with gum disease and other silent conditions that are damaging without pain until it is too late. The camera’s images can also show you how your home care routine is paying off; it can show you areas that may need more attention.
Intraoral cameras enable our practice to save your images in our office computer to provide a permanent record of your condition and treatments. These treatments can be printed for you, other specialists, and the lab or insurance company. We also have the ability to view before/after treatment photos simultaneously on the monitor.
